This is just part 1 of the conversation. Part two is here —> Doug and Ethan Part 2
Some of the things we reference in the show:

Oh that’s just the first part?!? :O
Jason, I can’t thank you enough for getting all these wonderful guests to share their stories, challenges, and insight. For painfully shy creators, (like myself) the opportunity to sit in on a great conversation like this is just priceless. Looking forward to the next part!
Thanks Laur! Actually, I feel the same way. After working at Dreamworks for a few years and having so many good conversations with amazing artists, I really wanted to try to capture some of these interesting conversations that are normally never heard outside the small circle.
Hi,
I have always been a big fan of Doug.
The podcast is very entertaining, can’t wait for part deux.
ETHAN ROCKS! lol…your doin great and congrats! still the most amazingly creative person i have ever met, always glad to see your updates on your success.
Wow, that was very cool to listen two. I always enjoy illustrator/comic artist interviews, and see what their life and work is like. I am already convinced that there is no one track into this kind of work, so I will just keep telling the stories I want to be telling. Right now that is a drawing diary, but prolly a comic at one point. It´s like Doug said, I´m going to be drawing, it´s just to decide what it´s going to look like, and to be able to live off it.
I am very happy and thankful that you are sharing these interviews with everyone. Keep it up!
You are very welcome! The thing I am also learning is that every comic artist is SOOOooooo different from every other comic artist. I love the diversity in opinions. After each talk I tend to rethink about everything I have been doing and it forces me to deconstruct why I am doing this the way I am doing it. Sometimes I change an approach to something and sometimes it just reaffirms what I am doing. But after talking with so many artists, I can see more and more that everyone has their own path with this stuff.
I love it! Just like each comic is considered a unique work of art, every creator (or sub-creator) is unique too.
As someone who has been doing feature film (with some television and video game) computer animation for a decade and a half, with five children, who really just wants to make Spy Guy comics, this podcast really hit home. A little TOO close to home.
Thanks for making this.
I never thought I could learn so much from A podcast keep up the good work guys
Jason,
Thanks for posting this interview. I think you, Doug, and Ethan are my three favorite graphic novelists/artists/creatives. :)
I’m a husband/father/teacher/musician. I write music and I can tell you that so much of what you discussed in this podcast was really helpful to me as a creator also. I’m not and never will be a comic maker (I think), but I so appreciate the discussion of craft and creativity.
Thanks!
Steven
